Every day
TOHU Pavilion

This permanent exhibit is designed to convey La TOHU’s special identity in a vividly expressive form. Spread throughout the reception area and the performance hall walkways, the exhibit highlights the circus artist’s eternal quest for balance (artistically and physically) as an aspect of the larger relationship (symbiotic yet potentially destructive) between human beings and their environment.

You can hear the story of the circus in our permanent Terra Cirqua exhibit, either by joining a guided tour, or on your own with audio-guide headphones. Discover one of the world’s finest collections of circus memorabilia, featuring a wealth of historical information and some of the sad and saucy tales that have gone into creating the circus as we know it today. Displays include children’s toys, posters, prints, antique and heritage artifacts, and circus-inspired decorative arts.

This entertaining, educational and deeply human exhibit has two distinct aspects. One is the circus, the history of which is told through pieces from the Fonds Jacob-William (one of the world’s largest private collections of circus artifacts), all displayed along the walkway to the circular performance hall. The other is the environment, which is explored through an interactive screen, in a unique combination of art and new technology, the issues concerning environmental protection in an urban setting and the creation of a new park in Montreal, where the old Miron Quarry used to be.
